Pennsylvania’s colleges and universities have a long history of supporting sexual orientation and gender identity nondiscrimination protections

Pennsylvania Schools Support LGBT-Inclusive Nondiscrimination Legislation!

Pennsylvania is home to over 100 institutions of higher education. They include many of the top research universities in the world. From our small liberal arts colleges to our large trade schools, these institutions train a skilled workforce and empower engaged members of our society. They are also among the oldest colleges and universities in the United States.

Most Pennsylvania colleges and universities already have policies banning discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. Education leaders know that students cannot learn if they live in fear for their basic safety and access to the classroom. Colleges and universities also know that these policies work and are essential for protecting LGBT members of their communities.

Nearly half of Pennsylvania’s Catholic colleges and universities protect LGBT people from discrimination, and nearly all ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

Colleges and universities from throughout the commonwealth are invited to share their support for LGBT nondiscrimination protections. They are institutions of learning, contain vibrant communities for their students, and are large employers for their regions.

The institutions of higher education listed here are supporting comprehensive legislation that bans discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity or expression in housing, employment, and public accommodations.

About Pennsylvania Values

Pennsylvania Values is the largest-ever public support campaign for LGBT nondiscrimination protections in our commonwealth’s history. Pennsylvania Values is powered by the Pennsylvania Youth Congress, PA’s first and only statewide LGBT youth organization and PA’s only Pennsylvania-based statewide LGBT policy advocacy organization. The time is now for LGBT nondiscrimination legislation to advance through the General Assembly!
